Preventing Alzheimers

Question:
A friend (male, 63 yrs old, healthy, eating "good food", currently onone med; remeron (mirtazapine) 30 mg a day) has several brothers andsisters with alzheimers. He want's to start eating nutritients, supplements etc., to prolong his healthy years, and at least try toprevent the outbreak of alzheimers. My suggestions to him are:

omega 3acetyl-l-carnitinepicamilone-vitaminseleniumc-vitaminb-vitaminkomplex

What do you all think? BTW, does anyone know a source who shipspicamilon in bulk internationally?

Answer: 400 iu of e and 500 mg of c, daily, seems to have a statistical effect ofpreventing dementias. His doctor should be massaged into prescribing one ormore of donepezil, galantamine, or memantine before the cognitive effectskick in. They have low side-effect profile for most people and you cantitrate up very slowly. Not a cure, but it can make a huge difference forsome people, giving them their mind for perhaps an extra few months to ayear.

It looks almost certain that he will get the disease, so take the time nowto find a good doctor who will get him through it.

If it is for circulation you could use Ginkgo.

I would use Vit C at least 500 mg and Vit E 400 IU because there was astudy that showed protection for dementia.

I would add magnessium and zinc.

Also lipoic acid (it seems the R form is better).

Also consider low dose aspirin for antimflammatory, anti clotting.Look for antiglycation supplements.

Also for neuroprotection consider memantine.
