Medications For Alzheimers

Question:
Are there any herbs/vitamins etc. that might help withAlzheimer's? My mother is 79 years old and her short termmemory is about gone, she can remember things thathappened years ago but can't tell you who the President is. She hashad blood work done, the doctor says there is nothing thatcan be done.

Can anyone give me some suggestions???

Answer: For a long time now, Gingko has been used as a mild memorystimulant. But in the case of Alzheimers and other organicbrain diseases, you will be needing some of the morepowerful medications that are out now. Your doctor isabsolutely incorrect in that nothing can be done. Thereare new medications which help, and not only that, but thereare other diseases which can have the same symptoms but maynot be Alzheimers.

Aricept is one of the medications which facilitate the brainchemicals that allow us to remember. My mother in law hasbeen on it for several years.

I suggest you subscribe to support.alzheimers, which isa website dedicated to people like yourself who arecaregivers for loved ones suffering from the disease. There are some absolutely wonderful new medications out nowthat help a lot, but be aware that there is no cure.

If your mother has alzheimers disease, please know that notonly are there good medications out now, but that gettinggood advice on how to deal with the disease is imperative.Your family doctor is not enough. You will need to havebetter diagnostics done, since there is more than onedisease that manifests in the same way (with memory loss)and the treatments may differ.
