Question: a couple of years ago one didn't know better than there wasAlzheimer's disease and a couple of minor other dementias. Nowadaysone begins to admit that this large patient group was extremelyheterogenous and that there are indeed a lot more dementia's which doneed other treatments. Of course there is the difference betweencortical and subcortical dementia but even inside these groups thereare a lot of different types. That's why I do not understand why there aren't any websites aboutother dementia's like Pick's disease, Parkinson's, Frontotemporaldementia, Huntington's, Lewy body etc. Maybe it should be even betterto start a dementia website in stead of an Alzheimer's diseasewebsite! Aren't there any people here who have experience with an otherdementia?
Answer: I agree that this is the case . We are also the parents of an autisticchild which does not have classic autism There are many diseases thatare known to cause the traits of autism (which are in many cases likedementia as far as behaviors)We have learned that the therapies and issues are the same. In theSpecial needs world there are storage diseases like San Flippo,Hunters, Hurlers that turn kids in Alzmeiners people. It is horrible.Instead of the plaques and tangles a sugar called MPS is doing that tothe brain and other organs. I bet that they will find that Alzheimer'svictims have some sort of storage disease and it could be similar. Thediseases are all metabolic all right.I guess they can only know by doing a autopsy on the brain afterdeath. I think my MIL has some sort of weird dementia rather thanclassic ASD
