Question: If you have family members who have or have had, Alzheimers, somethingthat might interest you is Vitamin E. About four years ago I heard a man (name forgotten) on CBC talkingabout a study they were doing into whether Vitamin E was of useagainst Alzheimers. At that point, most of the value was anecdotal, but he was sufficiently interested in results coming in that hehimself was taking a daily Vitamin E dose. As a result of listeningto what he had to say, I too have always taken it, it's the only thingI bother with, I not a follower of the usual crazes for Echinacea andother things. I take a multivitamin with a calcium supplement becauseosteoporosis also runs in my family but I hadn't heard of vitamin Ebeing effective in warding off Alzheimers. It's worth looking into. Ido NOT want to go down that road. What's your opinions???? Anything more to share with me???
Answer: The young woman I know whose sister died of early onset Alzheimerswas, along with her other sisters, put on a super high dosage ofVitamin E by her doctor. If you are interested enough to try it, about 400 mg per day isenough. If you do not buy one marked Water Soluble, you must take itwhen you are consuming a meal which includes fat of some sort, morefat than say a glass of whole milk. The Pharmacist at Shoppersexplained to me that the regular one, taken with a cup of coffee forexample will only be partly absorbed, there has to be fat in thestomach for total dosage absorption. I ran the idea past my doctor before I started taking it and he saidit could not do any harm so go for it. Disclaimer here :- I don't sell vitamins - I am merely passing onsomething I heard and that would currently seem to be the only thingone might try if Alzheimers has hit your family.
