Question: Are there any support groups for vascular dementia? I have to face some trouble now. My dady have some signs of dementia. Butas the doctors' says, he might be have vascular dementia. And I don't know much about this. Can anyone give me some suggestions??? I'm very in need of this information???
Answer: I think that these Alzheimer's Disease support groups will be just asusefule as any specialized dementia groups. To my knowledge, I have onlyseen AD and Pick's support groups. Many of the people who attend the ElderCare Online chat sessions are caringfor a loved one with Alzheimer's Disease, but some are also caring forPick's, Parkinson's and vascular dementia. Interestingly, researchers are increasingly finding that AD and vasculardementia go hand-in-hand. In a recent interview with the editor of theAmerican Journal of Alzheimer's Disease & Other Dementias athttp://216.122.139.136/ubb/Forum26/HTML/000009.html, Christopher Rowlandsaid that "What we think of as "Alzheimer's Disease" is often a mixture ofAlzheimer's Disease and vascular dementia." This is important to know inthat doctors may find treatments such as Lipitor (used for high bloodpressure) may help with vascular dementia. You should consult your doctorabout the use of prescription drugs for the treatment of vascular dementia. I welcome you to attend the regular dementia support groups availablethrough ElderCare Online. We host sessions every Wednesday and Thursdayevenings at 9-11PM EST (GMT -5).
