Question: My husband is becoming slightly confused and the doctor six months ago aftertests told us he had something(a very long Latin word) that sounded like whatmy Grandparents called "hardening of the arteries" and that it was a very slowmoving disease. Ben has gotten worse and today the doctor gave him somemedicine for alzheimers, but did not say the "a" word although I am convincedthat Ben has it. It would really help if I could find a chat or a news boardabout this disease that both of us are going to be living with. I hope I canlearn a tenth as much about how to deal with this situation as I have aboutneedlework from all of you. If you have any suggestions, please share with me???
Answer: good for you for looking for support. There is a website(like this is a website), support.alzheimers that you might try.I looked at some of the headers and they seem reasonable. I also dida web search using Google, I just typed in alzheimers support and gota lot of results. If I were you doing this, I'd also type in the nameof your state, it might give you some local groups. Best of luck. You might also try your public library, they may have local phonenumbers for support and informational groups. I feel very sorry for you and for what is ahead. And your husbandalso, if this is what he has. A very dear friend past away last May, with alot of medical problems and Alzheimers. He had had Alzheimers for years, buthis doctor treated him for other diseases and overlooked the Alzheimers. Myhusband and I pleaded with he and his wife, in the earlier stages to havehim checked for this, about 7 years before, but they just laughed it off. There are a number of Alzheimers Foundations in various parts of thecountry. Here are a couple URLs for you to check. I don't know what part ofthe country you are in, but these should help get you started. The first onelists a support group. I just did a search of Alzheimer Foundations. Theseshould cover everything you want to know, and probably a lot more. http://www.liaf.org/http://www.ahaf.org/
