Question: Heard on the Radio: A study released today apparantly "proved" that consumption of wine inmoderate amounts of a long period of time actually reduces your chances forcoming down with Alzheimers or Parkinsons. Two questions: Anyone seen a news story on this? I checked the winepublication dailies and didn't find it.and second, would this have any impact at all on us twitchy folks? I knowthe two diseases mentioned have nothing to do with our little secret, butwould love an informed opinion from someone who actually does this stuff fora living.
Answer: My aunt is a big-wig in the wine industry. She spouts off about all of wine'shealthful benefits all the time. I will contact her to get the scoop andreport back. BTW, I did hear about the Alzheimer's / Parkinson's study. But I heard aboutit at least a week or so ago, not today (maybe from my aunt at xmas-time? Idon't remember, I was probably drinking wine at the time). The article was from USA Today, dated Jan. 6. The study showed that winereduced the incidence of ischemic strokes. Other than this study she said mostother research she knows aobut is in relation to the heart and stressreduction. She has not heard about the Parkinsons/Alzheimers study yet ---maybe at the next exec. meeting she'll learn more
