The association has abrochure titled, "Is It Alzheimer's? Can anyone give me some ideas???
Answer: Dr. Derrick DeSilva did one of the most compelling case studies on a manwho having been placed in a nursing home with the diagnosis ofAlzheimers, incontinent and incoherent, was turned around with a coupleof months of IV rocephin. Slides were shown before and after. Beforehe was diagnosed properly, he was sitting, slumped in a chair in anursing home. The next slide revealed him with his arm around his wife, golf shorts on and ready to play 18 holes. I contacted the Alzheimers Assoc in our area twice in a two year spanand they were very receptive in the office, to the information butultimately nothing was done with it. This has occured with all of theorganizations who have shown interest on a personal level in theoffice. It seems to stop here because when the medical journalinformation and anecdotal reports are placed before the board and theirboard doctors to review the information, it ends up in theroundbasket..thus far anyway. The wheels of medical change grind slowly but they do move, even if at aseemingly imperceptible pace. Change inevitably does occur. Will welive to see it? Who knows.- I can always hope
