why is it necessary to do this in mexico rather than in the USA?The cancer quacks go there because they are unlicensed in the USA andwhat they are doing is fraud and illegal and they know it. What isthere about caring for old people with Alzheimer's Disease that makesit necessary to cross the border - cheaper, unqualified "nursing"staff, savings on costs (like professional indemnity insurance),access to foreign banks, lack of regulation of nursing homes, ... ?

Answer: You mention some important things which MUST be checked out in anysituation. However, let me assure you that Mexico is not the only placeyou may find what you call unregulated facilities. My aunt DIED fromabuse and neglect in a nursing home in Florida which is owned by one ofthe largest and most premier nursing home corporations in the nation.The way they treated her was inhuman, inexcusable, and barbaric ... andTHIS in the US healthcare system REGULATED by State of Florida,Medicare, Medicaid ... so that insures NOTHING.

In my experience I learned that the attitude of the caregivers was moreimportant in insuring the kind of care someone got than governmentalregulators.

And YES it is cheaper in Mexico ... that was one of the main points.When you are facing the bill for long term care for a physically healthyAD patient like my mother, who had no insurance and was all private pay.After ten years you begin to exhaust resources. At between $3,000 to$5000 per month in Florida that is a lot of money. So to me $1500 permonth with EXCELLENT care was not only a bargain but an answer toprayer.

It may NOT be an answer to other people's prayers, but it was to mine.And all I am trying to do is to share what is out there.
