Question: I have to question how effective drugs are in combatingAlzheimers -- early stages, or not. Perhaps they slow the progress abit. Seems that I read awhile back that taking one Ibuprofen a daysignificantly reduced the incidence of Alzheimers. Also, while a linkbetween aluminum and Alzheimers has never been proven, I'm notconvinced that it has been disproven. There have been numerous studieswhich showed the ease with which some aluminum compounds pass theblood brain barrier. Aluminum compounds are found in the plaquedeposits in the brains of Alzheimers patients. At any rate, it's truly a horrible disease. I'd pick cancer or AIDSany day over Alzheimers.
Answer: Several more things about Alzheimers. True Alzheimers can't be diagnosed untilautopsy and memory loss often begins in the 50's. What they do now is try torule out any other organic cause and if they can't find any, they call itAlzheimers. It is zinc that is in the nerve bundles. They are testing Vitamin E for thosediagnosed with memory loss. There are also two drugs under test now whichdon't cure but slow down the development of memory loss. I have not heardabout ibuoprofen tests but they may have been done. According to a researcher from UC Berkeley whose lecture I recently attended, the best thing we can do is learn to focus better, and use our minds forproblem solving tasks.
