Alcohol Induced Dementia

Question:
In his book, "The Power to Harm" by John Cornwell (award winning scientist &author from Cambridge, England, who was asked to cover the Wesbecker Prozactrial in 1994 by the London Times), one of the reasons that Eli Lillyscientists quit working on Prozac in the late l970"s was just because of that -PROZAC QUIT WORKING.

This book is a must read for all Prozac Survivor's. How desperate could a drugcompany be that it would pay the plantiff's lawyer to withhold evidence. EliLilly makes 2.36 BILLION a year from Prozac. Fascinating but heartbreakingreading.

The most frightening aspect of Prozac, after the hostility reaction, is theTOTAL CHANGE IN PERSONALITY. The person on Prozac is not even aware of this. A national tragedy.

What's your opinions??

Answer: I am aware of no evidence to support your contention that Prozac causes a"total change in personality" and in fact have seen literally hundreds ofpeople taking it at therapeutic doses. I have seen two cases of adversereactions: one was an atropine-like psychosis at 20 mg/day in an elderlywoman, the other was rapid-onset lethargy and drowsiness (also in anelderly woman at 10 mg/day). I have also seen many people receivingZoloft and Paxil, which have very similar chemical actions, also without"total personality change" being evident. The only adverse reaction Ihave seen with Zoloft is manic symptoms and auditory hallucinations whichoccurred in a late middle-aged person with mild alcohol-induced dementia, taking 175 mg/day (due to a serious error in judgment by the physicianwriting the prescription- starting at 25 mg/day and increasing by 25 mgevery three days with a target dosage of 200 mg/day).

In my experience observing people on Prozac and other SSRIantidepressants, the primary problems seem to be gastrointestinal (loss ofappetite, upset stomach, diarrhea) and lack of efficacy in a significantpercentage of cases.

I would appreciate your posting of a bibliography of articles andreferences pertaining to your statement that Prozac causes "totalpersonality change" and the "hostility reaction," as well as allegedlyceasing to be efficacious. Mental health professionals certainly need toknow about these reactions, if they are in fact substantiated.
